Walnuts affect the maintenance of elasticity of blood vessels
Consuming a few nuts a day after meals may help the body to reduce the damage it inflicts arteries overly fatty foods, reported Spanish scientists. It is believed that nuts are rich ingredients that reduce calcification of arteries and make them more flexible.
Researchers from the Hospital Clinico in Barcelona have recommended daily ingestion about 28 grams of nuts. The results of the study were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and brought another interesting fact to which nuts have a greater impact on the health of the individual from olive oil .
The research scientists from Barcelona participated 24 volunteers. Half of them had normal blood cholesterol levels, and in the second half cholesterol levels were moderately elevated.
Each subject per day are served to the two meals that consisted of higher amounts of full-fat cheese and fatty types of salami. With a meal participants were given five tablespoons of olive oil, with the second installment of the eight nuts.
Research has shown that olive oil and nuts contributed to reducing harmful inflammatory effects of sudden artery that occurs after a meal rich in saturated fats. Scientists have found that before the start of causing hardening of the arteries, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
It was found that, unlike olive oil, which resulted in reduction of blood cholesterol levels, nuts and influence to maintain the elasticity of blood vessels, which is important because only the elastic arteries can ‘expand’ when the body requires increased blood supply.
Nuts contain the amino acid arginine, which stimulates cell renewal and growth, and the organism is used to produce nitric acid, a chemical compound required to be elastic blood vessels.
The daily recommended dose is 28 grams of walnuts
Nuts, Spanish researchers believe, also containing antioxidants and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) – omega-3 fatty acid. The scientist who led the research, Dr. Emilio Ros said that with colleagues working on a study about it whether ALA from walnuts help patients with cardiac arrhythmia.
At the same time warned that it is very important to point out that the good side of consuming walnuts does not mean that people can every day to eat huge amounts of fatty foods and consequences ‘void’ with a few nuts after such a meal.
“Walnuts help, but only if the daily diet balanced” , said Dr. Ros.
